How do Retractable Awnings Work?

If you're in the market for some new awnings for your home or business you are most likely weighing all the options to find the most suitable choice of awnings.  There are lots of different styles of awnings including the timeless classic traditional stationary, the dome, the European dome, the "Swag" concave awning, the long dome (which is a mix of traditional stationary & dome), and many others to choose from.  The check out a full list of awning styles please click here.

Aside from the major styles we have referenced there is another variation of awning that is becoming increasingly popular, the retractable awning.  What makes retractable awnings such a popular choice is their ability to be "retracted" or pulled back and stored when they are not being used.  The big advantage to this style of awning is of course having the best of both worlds, a beautiful and versatile awning when you need it & the ability to almost completely hide that awning when you don't.  Retractable awnings sounds like a fantastic choice and you may be asking yourself the question, how do retractable awnings work? To answer this question properly it's important to note that there are several different types of retractable awnings with the main difference being that some work with remote control and some are manual.  Manual retractable awnings typically have a long handle which is inserted into the awning's retractable control system and turned to either open the awning system or retract it.  The manual retractable awning systems are time tested and have been a staple of the industry for many years.

However in recent years the advent of electric retractable awnings have become the new favorite.  These new electric systems are plugged into an outlet and typically controlled by a remote that easily retracts and opens the awnings whenever you need them, pretty convenient and easy!  These systems are completely waterproof and built to last with electronics that have proven the test of time.  The only drawback to retractable awnings is that you are somewhat limited in the shape of the awning system, because they have to retract easily, domed retractable awnings are challenging and most retractable awning's have the traditional awning shape.

Whether your considering manual or electric retractable awnings, or even if you'd just like to learn a little more about them and the choices offered for either, we encourage you to call us today at 305-519-3735!
